SPRINGFIELD, MA, November 2006 – Equine Affaire, the largest and most comprehensive horse exposition in the nation, filled the Eastern States Exposition from November 9-12. This year’s show featured an exceptionally strong program of more than 150 clinics, seminars, and demonstrations as well as a 450-vendor trade show, bringing retailers and manufacturers representing all facets of the horse industry to equine enthusiasts in the region. More than 100,000 horse enthusiasts enjoyed the vast range of opportunities afforded by Equine Affaire and basked in unusually warm, sunny weather for three of the four days. As attendee Daria Iwanczuk declared: “This was the first time for me, it definitely won't be the last.” Among the many outstanding clinicians at the event were Leslie Desmond, Sharon Camarillo, Cindy Sydnor, Donna Snyder-Smith, Linda Tellington-Jones, Dana Hokana, Mary Trowbridge, Muffy Seaton, Stacy Westfall, Cesar Parra, and Charles Wilhelm. Clinics and demonstrations conducted by Craig Cameron, Kenny Harlow, Eitan Beth-Halachmy, Scot Hansen, Lydia Hiby, and Jan Sharp were standing-room-only, and jumping clinics with Jeff Cook and Denny Emerson were also exceedingly well-attended. In the words of attendee Jennifer Ford: “It was my fourth year at the event and by far the best due to great presenters.” Additional equine information could be found in the Breed Pavilion, which featured more than 50 different breed associations as well as stallions, mares, and geldings. Younger equestrians found information geared towards their interests in the Arabian Horse Association Youth Pavilion, which included more than 20 breed segments and the Stone Celebrity Horse Showcase. The Pfizer Fantasia, Equine Affaire’s musical celebration of the horse, was—as in past years—sold out on all three nights. -MORE- The show featured a wonderful variety of horse breeds as well as equestrian sports ranging from drill team routines and vaulting to freestyle reining and dressage. The Canadian Cowgirls Drill Team kicked off each evening with fast, complicated routines. Vince Bruce riveted everyone’s attention with his Wizard of Whips & Lariats show. Dr. Cesar Parra’s brought his Olympic dressage mount, Galant du Serein, to perform a musical freestyle that took almost everyone’s breath away. Stacy Westfall’s stunning bareback and bridleless freestyle reining performance brought down the house, while Eitan Beth-Halachmy brought the western and English disciplines together through his “cowboy dressage” ride on the magnificent Morgan stallion, Santa Fe Renegade. During each day at Equine Affaire, the weekly television shows, The Saddle Club™, and America by Horseback could be found taking full advantage of the beautiful weather as they filmed the event and conducted interviews. The radio program Speaking of Horses was also in attendance, interviewing not only presenters, but attendees. Equine Affaire culminated with the drawing of the winners of the 2006 raffle. Congratulations go to Stanley Chapman (Kieffer English saddle from Tacknology); Elizabeth Cyran (portrait by artist Helen Scanlon of Sound the Bugle Studio); Barbara Mahon (natural horse care package from Emerald Valley); Beth Loewenstein (travel gear for horse and rider from Valley Vet Supply); JoAnn Rupeka and Roxanne Blaze (all terrain bucket system from Just HorsN Around); Libby Fedorka (Griffinbrook, Ltd. $200 shopping spree); Donna Chapman (one-year membership to PONY); and Debbie Borgert, Bret Landry, Stephen O’Connell, who all won tickets to the 2007 Equine Affaire.
